CBS president of entertainment Nina Tassler told reporters on Saturday that both of the network's Friday-night genre shows—Ghost Whisperer and Medium—are in the running for renewal next season, though no decisions have been made.
"Medium is doing fine, and it will absolutely be considered for next year," Tassler said in a press conference in Pasadena, Calif., for the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
CBS picked up Medium after NBC declined to put it on its 2009-'10 schedule. Ghost Whisperer has been a mainstay on CBS and also has a good shot at returning. "Nothing's a lock, but it's absolutely in consideration for next year," Tassler said in a group interview following the press conference.
Tassler said that she is happy with the Friday-night lineup. Ratings have been down this year, but she cites last Friday's numbers as a good sign.
"We had season highs last night on Friday," Tassler said. "I'm not complaining from last night's numbers. We still program for Friday night. It's clear we have two shows there with Ghost Whisperer and with Medium that have a good flow from one into the other, so we will continue to program there for Friday night. For us, we still see opportunities."
